Door sensors are an important part of any home security system as they alert you when someone enters your house. These devices are made up of two pieces that, when kept parallel to each other, produce a circuit. When the door is opened, the two components separate and the circuit is broken, causing the control panel to sound an alert.
As are so simple to install, it's easy to overlook their usefulness. However, the more you understand about how your home security system works, the better you will be able to operate and maintain it.
While door alarm sensors come in a variety of shapes and sizes, the majority employ a reed switch and a magnet to discern whether a door is open or closed.Magnetic door contact alarm is used to trigger the opening and closing of doors and windows. Reed switches rely on a set of electrical connectors and are found in a wide range of devices, from doorbells to laptops. When the two pieces are near to one another, the switch closes, allowing an electric current to flow. When the switch is flipped open, the two pieces separate, stopping the electrical current and deactivating the circuit.
A Magnetic door contact alarm will come with both a reed switch and a magnet when you add one to your home security system. One piece attaches to the door frame, while the other attaches to the door parallel to the first piece. When the door is shut, the two sections form a closed circuit. The magnet and switch separate when the door opens, breaking the seal.
Door sensors are simple to set up. Attach one piece of the sensor to the door and the other to the frame with a strong adhesive. The two pieces must be placed directly next to each other, with only a small space between them. The pieces cannot interact if they are too far apart or not parallel to one another, and the reed switch and magnet will not form a circuit.
You may be able to customise the type of alert you receive when a door opens, depending on the security system. When a door opens, you can choose to have an audible alarm sound. Alternatively, you may prefer that the alarm sound quietly while alerting your security company and notifying you of a possible breach.
No door sensor work for a life time. They may get damaged or become obsolete with the time. In such case, one should make sure to call your home security company to replace it immediately.
